GRODATX® — For Alkyd Based paints: add water, cut costs, keep performance
GRODATX® is the multifunctional neutralizing and emulsifying agent that lets you incorporate up to 30% water into alkyd solvent-based paints — reducing formulation cost by up to 20% and lowering VOC, with stability proven over 30 months of testing. Manufactured in Mexico. Available now.
The cost and VOC challenge in Alkyd Solvent-Based coatings
Every liter of an alkyd enamel carries two of the most expensive raw materials in the industry: alkyd resin and petroleum-derived solvent. As resin and white spirit prices climb, formulation cost reduction becomes a survival requirement — not an optimization exercise. At the same time, environmental regulations keep tightening the limits on volatile organic compounds, pushing manufacturers of solvent-based coatings toward VOC reduction strategies that traditionally demanded expensive reformulation or new equipment.
The obvious answer — replacing part of the solvent with water — has historically been off the table for alkyd systems: water and alkyd resins do not mix on their own, and forcing them together compromises viscosity, drying, gloss and long-term stability. That is exactly the problem GRODATX® was engineered to solve, acting as a neutralizing agent for alkyd systems that makes controlled water emulsification in alkyd paints technically and commercially viable.
How GRODATX® works in Alkyd Based Paints
GRODATX® performs a dual role in alkyd formulations: it acts as a neutralizer and as an emulsifying agent, stabilizing water droplets inside the solvent-based system. Dosed at levels as low as 0.1% of the formula, GRODATX® enables the emulsification of 15% water — and optimized systems admit up to 30% water incorporation replacing part of the resin-and-solvent volume.
The result is direct: every liter of water displaces the most expensive components of the paint, cutting formulation cost by up to 20% while simultaneously reducing the VOC content of the finished coating. GRODATX® is added during standard processing — no new equipment, no process redesign, no change to your production line.
- 0.1% dosage emulsifies 15% water in alkyd systems
- Up to 30% total water incorporation in optimized formulas
- Formulation cost reduction of up to 20%
- VOC reduction aligned with international environmental standards
- No equipment changes — added within your existing process
Stability proven over 30 months of testing
The first question every formulator asks about water emulsification in alkyd paints is the right one: what happens to the paint over time? GRODATX® was validated in a full alkyd enamel formulation monitored for 30 months. The results confirm that alkyd enamel stability is preserved across every critical property:
- Opacity: 97.9 initial → 97.5 after 30 months
- 60° gloss: 92 initial → 90 after 30 months
- Surface dry time: 4.0 hrs — unchanged
- Set-to-touch: 1.0 → 1.4 hrs — within specification
- Color acceptance (phthalo blue rub-up) maintained
- Flow, sag resistance and hardness stable across the test
The complete test protocol, the guide formulation and the full property table are documented in the official technical data sheet — available immediately after a short form below.
One Multifunctional Additive, Made in Mexico for Global Formulators
If your plant produces both waterborne acrylic emulsion paints and alkyd based paints, GRODATX® consolidates two functions into a single-inventory product: in aqueous systems it works as a pH regulator and full ammonia replacement — a direct 1:1 substitute for AMP-95 and Advantex — and in alkyd systems it enables water emulsification, VOC reduction and cost optimization.
As a paint additive manufacturer in Mexico with our own reactors and quality laboratory, GRODASA controls every batch from synthesis to shipment. That means immediate availability for Latin America, competitive lead times for the United States, and technical documentation available in English and German for European buyers evaluating waterborne alkyd technology.
- Single inventory for waterborne and alkyd production lines
- 1:1 replacement for imported pH regulators — no reformulation
- Batch-to-batch quality certified by our in-house laboratory
- Export-ready: USA and Europe, documentation in English and German
Frequently asked questions about GRODATX® in Alkyd systems
What dosage of GRODATX® is required in alkyd based paints?
A dosage as low as 0.1% of the total formula enables the emulsification of 15% water. Depending on the system and target, optimized alkyd formulations can incorporate up to 30% water. The technical data sheet includes a complete guide formulation with exact quantities.
Does incorporating water affect the stability of alkyd enamels?
No. In a 30-month monitored test, the GRODATX®-modified alkyd enamel maintained its viscosity behavior, drying times, opacity (97.5), 60° gloss (90), hardness and color acceptance within specification. The full property table is in the data sheet.
Can GRODATX® replace AMP-95 or Advantex in my formulations?
Yes. GRODATX® substitutes AMP-95 (Angus/Advancion) and Advantex (Eastman) in a direct 1:1 ratio, with no reformulation and no equipment changes. This applies to waterborne systems, while in alkyd systems it additionally works as an emulsifying agent.
Does GRODATX® reduce VOC in solvent-based coatings?
Yes. Every percentage of water incorporated displaces solvent, lowering the VOC content of the finished paint toward international environmental standards while also reducing formulation cost by up to 20%.
Do I need to modify my equipment or production process?
No. GRODATX® is added within your existing manufacturing process. No new reactors, mixers or dosing equipment are required — which is why the substitution and adoption cost is essentially zero.
Can I request a sample or purchase GRODATX® outside Mexico?
Yes. GRODASA supplies Latin America with immediate availability, has an export process to the United States underway, and offers technical and regulatory documentation in English and German for European buyers. Evaluation samples are available on request.
